Searches for LFV with CMS: leptoquarks with couplings to quarks of the 3rd generation

Leptoquarks (LQ) with couplings to the third generation of Standard Model (SM) quarks have been proposed as possible explanations of the flavour anomalies indicating the violation of lepton flavour universality (LFV). The CMS collaboration has initiated an extensive search programme for these new states in the LHC run-2 data recorded at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV. In this article, the CMS search results in the LQ pair-production final states τb τb\tau b\,\tau b, νt νt\nu t\,\nu t, νb νb\nu b\,\nu b, τt τt\tau t\,\tau t, and μt μt\mu t\,\mu t, as well as in the LQ single-production final state τ τb\tau\,\tau b are discussed. No significant deviation from the SM is observed in any of these channels. For a broad range of LQ decay modes, exclusion limits on the LQ masses are determined at 95% confidence level reaching from 1.0 TeV to 1.8 TeV.Comment: Contribution to LHCP 2018, Bologna, Italy, 4-9 June 2018, 8 pages, 5 figure

Discovery Potential of MSSM Higgs Bosons with ATLAS

In this article the potential of the ATLAS experiment to discover MSSM Higgs bosons is discussed. Various Monte-Carlo studies for SM Higgs boson production and dedicated MSSM Higgs boson analyses are taken into account to investigate the discovery potential in four different CP-conserving MSSM benchmark scenarios, the Mh-max scenario, the no mixing scenario, the gluophobic scenario and the small alpha scenario. The most recent theoretical calculations are used for the prediction of Higgs masses and couplings. The results are shown for integrated luminosities of 30 and 300 inverse fb. With 300 inverse fb, a five sigma discovery of at least one Higgs boson state is possible in all scenarios for all values of tan beta and MA. The heavy neutral and charged Higgs states can only be discovered in parts of the parameter space.Comment: Presented at the 2005 International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics (EPS2005), Lisbon, Portugal, July 200

Few electron double quantum dot in an isotopically purified 28^{28}Si quantum well

We present a few electron double quantum dot (QD) device defined in an isotopically purified 28^{28}Si quantum well (QW). An electron mobility of 5.5⋅104cm2(Vs)−15.5 \cdot 10^4 cm^2(Vs)^{-1} is observed in the QW which is the highest mobility ever reported for a 2D electron system in 28^{28}Si. The residual concentration of 29^{29}Si nuclei in the 28^{28}Si QW is lower than 103ppm10^{3} ppm, at the verge where the hyperfine interaction is theoretically no longer expected to dominantly limit the T2T_{2} spin dephasing time. We also demonstrate a complete suppression of hysteretic gate behavior and charge noise using a negatively biased global top gate.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

Model-based displacement estimation of wind turbine blades using strainmodal data

    Get PDF
For wind turbine rotor blades, the use of strain sensors is preferred over acceleration sensors for the purpose of permanent monitoring. Experimental modal analysis during operation is thus constrained to strain information, yielding strain modal data including strain mode shapes. For follow-up investigations such as aerodynamic load assessment or flutter monitoring it is however advantageous to have this information as displacement mode shapes or as displacements of the blade contour over time. This research applies a generic approach that converts strain mode shapes to displacement mode shapes utilizing an FE shell model as a basis for approximation. The accuracy of the approach is assessed by comparison with experimentally identified high-resolution displacement mode shapes which are acquired with accelerometers and serve as a reference. In the process the conversion procedure is illustrated with the help of strain data that has been obtained using a sensor instrumentation installed for certification testing of the blade. The requirements for successful usage of the employed conversion scheme and its suitability for rotor blade data are discussed
